Dragonfly Creek

Yesterday I learned that the stormwater creek I tend in Dragonfly Park was once teaming with life, filled with frogs, salamanders and tadpoles. As I tend the creek, pulling out toys, tools and other debris that flows downstream onto my property I see evidence of chemicals as well. Summer water can appear cloudy with foam in some sections and oil slicks in others. The amphibians have disappeared. Downstream from here this water becomes someone's drinking water and home for salmon. Salmon fishing was banned this year because of the low population of salmon off the Oregon coast. I presume the stormwater that I see passing through my property contains pesticides, herbicides, oil from vehicles, detergents and who knows what other chemicals. How disheartening.

Legacy

What legacy will I leave behind? The trees that I plant that could last 1000 years. What of my words and actions? Will those ripple through time in ways I cannot imagine? If I could look back in time and see the consequences of my words and actions on others I would only like to the good they have done. To see the damage would be hell.

Making Progress

When I start a new project it can be overwhelming to look an all the work that needs to be done to achieve the desired end result. When I focus more on tiny pieces that can be accomplished in one day then a huge project becomes manageable.

To Thine Own Self Be True

It is so freeing to let go of the need to have someone approve of you and feel secure in being yourself. It is just as important to to follow your intuition and not go against your intuition to please another. In my experience that only creates regrets and over time effects health if ignoring intuition becomes a pattern of behavior.
